The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) and the Louisiana Secretary of State office have declared the Year of 2017 as the year to Start a Business. With their declaration, throughout February and March the LSBDC will offer workshops across the state on Louisiana GeauxBIZ.com, the one-stop site for launching a business in Louisiana.
Carla Bonaventure, Secretary of State’s Commercial Administrator, said small business are vital to Louisiana’s economy and the education and encouragement for entrepreneurs are essential.
“We’re excited that these workshops will show Louisiana how we’ve streamlined the government process and made it easier to pursue and reach their entrepreneurial dream,” Bonaventure said.
The GeauxBIZ workshops will educate attendees on how to register their business with the Secretary of State, and in a two-hour setting a presenter will address common issues and challenges in the waiting process. GeauxBIZ allows entrepreneurs the ability to complete the necessary legal documents to start a business, register for a tax revenue number and apply for an unemployment insurance tax account number.
Na’Tisha Natt, LSBDC Director of Marketing, said it’s a great opportunity and partnership that truly benefits Louisiana.
“It’s always great to see state organizations come together to help the people of Louisiana,” Natt said. “The LSBDC is always looking for opportunities to grow partnerships and more importantly grow Louisiana through small businesses.”
The workshops will also specifically inform the attendees how to reserve a business name, create a checklist of federal, state and local licenses and permits, file with the Secretary of State, Department of Revenue, and Louisiana Workforce Commission, apply for unemployment insurance, and find other resources for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
