It’s time to go big and leave home. Did you realize that 96 percent of the world’s consumers live outside of the United States? That means it’s time for you and your business to expand beyond the American nest and reach foreign soil. The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) offers certified professional export assistance that could help businesses reach over 6.5 billion potential customers outside the U.S. to increase clientele and of course sales.
There is a significant opportunity for small businesses to profit through exporting and go where the customers are. Small businesses looking to increase sales and profit, reduce dependence on the domestic market and stabilize seasonal fluctuations should consider exporting.
The LSBDC can help dispel common myths and answer basic exporting and trade questions such as; how to start, how to get paid, and is it safe.
Through no-cost consulting, the LSBDC’s global business consultants can help determine if your business has potential for international markets. To get you started, the LSBDC’s consultants will assess export readiness, which includes a thorough review of your business operations to ensure it has capacity to sustain the international market.
If you need financing, the LSBDC can introduce you to export financing programs; and additional assistance, including cash flow projections and loan preparation, is available.
The LSBDC is staffed with export consultants who are members of the National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators Certified Global Business Professionals (NASBITE CGBP), the only professional credential for international trade professionals in the United States. It provides a benchmark for competency in global commerce. The CGBP designation demonstrates an individual’s ability to conduct global business including Global Business Management, Global Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Trade Finance.
The LSBDC also has SBA Export and Trade Intermediate Level Counselors, which are useful for small business counselors working with clients who are ready to export, or existing exporters seeking to expand or strengthen their international trade business.
As with any business venture, exporting may pose a risk. But with preparation, you’re less susceptible to those risks. Whether it’s identifying international risks, developing strategies to mitigate risks or creating a business continuity plan, the LSBDC will assist with your risk management planning.
The LSBDC is Louisiana’s largest and most accessible source of business assistance. Through a network of 12 locations, the LSBDC is the only statewide nationally accredited program that provides no cost one-on-one business consulting, training, and information resources to entrepreneurs.
The LSBDC network, hosted by ULM, is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA, LED, and participating universities. All opinion, conclusions or recommendations expressed are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. SBA.
